Lyrics

When it Comes To Life

A vindaloo brooded in a pot on the stove
An ill wind moaned and groaned at the door
Shadows jumped on the walls where pictures were nailed
And spite was the spike on which they were impaled

Lustily locked in a rapturous swoon
By the sly milky light of a peeping tom moon
The mirror reflected on a cold living room
Where lust and denial were the bride and the groom

When it comes to life, you gotta live with it
You gotta live with it, make no mistake
When it comes to life, you got to admit it
If there’s no give, then there’s no take

Oh dreams and ideals work well in theory
When everyday life seems dull and dreary
But this isn’t how I thought I would feel
When it came to life and it all got surreal

Once lovin’ was easy as flying to birds
But it went without sayin’ and took all the words
Now the sound of sirens is the song of the night
And if this was a painting it’d be a still life

When it comes to life, you gotta live with it
You gotta live with it, for goodness sake
When it comes to life, you got to admit it
If there’s no give, then there’s no take

Now picture windows as a wind blows a-sweepin’
Autumn leaves across cloudy skies
And sadness reigns and it’s like they’re a-weepin’
And panes the eyes behind which the truth lies

But when it came to life for an eerie spell
Everything changed I thought I knew well
And I had a look at what I’d never seen
And that’s all it took to bring it on home to me
